When you buy a scarf like this you are being eco-conservative. Because some scarves do not require all the yarn in a skein, there is often “leftover” balls of yarn which I combine to make scarves like this one. This “recycling” of new, unused yarn reduces waste and the need to throw out perfectly good yarn.
